Most kitchen island pendants are too big for the room they end up in. CAIRO isn't.

It's a small matte black dome with a solid pine top — 4.5 inches across, about the width of a coffee mug. It drops a tight, warm pool of light onto the counter without parking a large object in your sightline across the room. That restraint is the whole point.

Because it's small, it's built to be grouped. Most kitchen islands take two or three, spaced 24–30 inches apart, hung so the bottom of the shade sits 30–36 inches above the countertop. Over a breakfast bar or a narrow peninsula, two is usually right. Over a sink, a nightstand, or a reading corner, one on its own is enough.

The cord adjusts to a 59-inch drop, so 8-, 9- and 10-foot ceilings are all covered — you shorten it at install. It takes a standard E26 bulb, so anything from the hardware store fits; Put it on a dimmer switch or a smart bulb and it moves from task light at dinner prep to low light after.

How many CAIRO pendants do I need over my kitchen island?

Two for islands up to about 6 feet, three for 7 to 9 feet. Space them 24 to 30 inches apart and keep the outer pendants at least 6 inches in from the ends so the grouping stays centred. Over a breakfast bar or a narrow peninsula, two is usually right. This is a mini pendant — one on its own suits a sink, a nightstand, or a reading corner rather than a full island.

What bulb does it take, and is one included?

One E26 bulb, not included. Max 15W LED — but that's the LED wattage, not the light output. A 15W LED is equivalent to roughly a 100W incandescent bulb, so three of these over an island gives you about 300W worth of light. For a warm, relaxed feel go 2700K. For a kitchen where you want things a touch crisper, 3000K works well.

What are the exact dimensions?

The shade is 4.53 inches (11.5 cm) across. Maximum drop is 59.06 inches (150 cm) including the cord, and it's adjustable — you shorten it during install. The fixture weighs 1.18 kg. It's a genuinely small pendant, which is the point: it lights the counter without blocking the view across the room.

How high should I hang it above the counter?

Around 30 to 36 inches from the countertop to the bottom of the shade is standard over a kitchen island. Over a dining table, 28 to 34 inches from the tabletop. The cord is adjustable so you set the exact drop during install.

What is it made from?

Matte black painted steel for the shade, with a solid pine top — real wood, not a wood-look finish. Because it's natural pine, small variations in grain and tone between fixtures are normal.

Is it dimmable?

Yes, with an external dimmer switch or a dimmable smart bulb. There's no integrated dimmer in the fixture, so you can use whatever system you already have. If you're on a wall dimmer, make sure it's rated for LED loads.

Does each pendant need its own ceiling box?

Yes. Each CAIRO is a single pendant on its own canopy, so hanging three over an island means three ceiling boxes. If you only have one box and don't want new wiring runs, look at the CAIRO 3-Light — all three shades drop from one canopy.

Is it approved for Canadian electrical code?

Yes. UL listed for both the USA and Canada (cUL), so it passes inspection and won't cause issues with insurance or a home sale. Made in Poland by TK Lighting.

Do I need an electrician?

It's a hardwired fixture that requires installation. If you're replacing an existing ceiling light on the same box, many people handle it themselves. If you're adding boxes for a multi-pendant run, use a licensed electrician.

Can it go in a bathroom or on a covered porch?

No — it's rated for dry locations only. Keep it out of bathrooms with a shower or tub, and out of anywhere exposed to damp, including covered outdoor areas.
